But I Lived to See 57

So I’m not all that hungry but I got my traditional birthday Chinese take-out for the fortune cookie, as I keep the fortune in my wallet for the year—and there was no fortune in the cookie.

Guess I’ll have to make my own fortune. Good thing I bought an extra PowerBall ticket.

Pareidolia

So I tried those laundry detergent sheets yesterday, the ones that dissolve in the wash so that you don’t have to buy large plastic containers of detergent that is mostly water. They’re great, but there is one small problem: When they’re done doing their clothes-cleaning duty, they need to let go of the washer tub and go to the light.

Pareidolia is a brain phenomenon by which you see faces or patterns in things that are not really faces or patterns. Still, this gave me a start, boy howdy. Gives new meaning to the term “ghosts in the machine.”

I don’t believe in any gods, but I do believe that the earth is a living thing. If there is judgment to be rendered, it will come in the form of our extinction for all the destruction we’ve wrought upon the land and all the harm we’ve done to all the living things upon it.

The creatures of air, land, and sea do not need us and will not miss us.
