That’s really a metaphor for my writer’s block. Didn’t get much sleep last night. Sometimes it’s like that. This little skeleton was in someone’s front yard and I would have missed it if I hadn’t been looking down trying to close my phone after taking the picture in the previous entry. I appreciate the subtlety.
I caught a nice little possession flick tonight, The Last Rite. A jerky boyfriend, a shadowy figure in a hat, a few jump scares, some blood but no guts, and demonic conversation without profanity don’t sound like much on the surface, but the film had a gnawing tension. If you’re into very dark possession flicks like The Pope’s Exorcist, you might find it a little bland, but there’s levels to this stuff and I’d say it’s a good starter possession flick.

I give myself the weekends off from writing. In theory that’s the day I just do notes and research and line up projects for the week. To keep my blog active on the weekends, most of my weekend posts were written mid-week or they’re from my ‘bank’ and I date them accordingly. The funny thing is, halff the time I go on and write anyway. I think you need to give yourself some time to refill the well and that’s how I do it.

I think part of it is that I’m a journalist, so I write all the time. But it’s not creative or even a labor of love. In fact, it’s downright draining because I write about mental health and substance use disorders, so my weekday life is consumed with trauma, overdose, and suicide. Good times. Not.

Ever since the ceiling caved in during the Texas freeze in 2021 I feel like my writing has been frozen. (Right now, I’m going through a bunch of dental work and pain is making my brain not work. Writer’s Block eventually passes. Or so I’m told.

Augh! I’m sorry to hear that. And dental work can be awful. I had to have a root canal retreated in May 2022 (dentist missed an entire root, don’t get me started) and it SUCKED.
